The Role
We are looking for a talented, forward-thinking digital engineer with at least 2 years of UK post-graduate experience in a similar organisation with both strong structural engineering and Python skills who wants to make a difference in the way Elliott Wood delivers its industry leading engineering.
Job description:
Computational Engineer
Responsibilities
- Assist in the delivery of our internal development projects to time and budget.
- Work on all aspects of designing an infrastructure of automation tools from inception through to completion, with minimum supervision.
- Work closely with other teams within Elliott Wood including Sustainability and Development Infrastructure.
- Liaise with engineers and technicians whilst carrying out your duties in order to design tools efficiently and encourage adoption across the practice.
- Training – you will be proactive in your approach to your own training and IPD/CPD within the Practice framework.
About You
- As mentioned, you may have between 2-5 years' experience within a similar organisation with both strong structural engineering and Python skills.
- You have at least one year of experience within a UK Engineering firm as a structural or civil engineer
- You have experience developing applications with Python and an understanding of tools such as Numpy, Pandas, Jinja and PyNiteFEA
- You have experience of connecting to APIs for commonly used industry software products from providers such as Autodesk, Tekla, CSI or Sofistik.
- You are familiar with Rhino Compute and Hops.
- You are familiar with database technology such as SQL.
- You are able to create and maintain tools that are easily maintained and debugged
- You are able to show how you have used scripting and computational design in your previous experience to automate or streamline common engineering workflows.
- Are able to demonstrate understanding of the common issues engineers face day to day and how we might assist through computational development
- A strong academic history with a relevant degree in Structural Engineering or equivalent from a well-recognised University
- Good project management skills including an ability to manage time, resources, costs and communication within the Practice.
- Strong team working ability, able to influence, explain, and present a professional image at all times
- Open, positive and approachable attitude
- Excellent communications skills, fluent in written and spoken English
Working hours:
- Our full-time contract is 37.5 hours per week.
- Part time working is possible for the right candidate.
Location:
- We offer hybrid working (ideally with a minimum of three days in the office each week).
- Your primary location will be our Central London office (55 Whitfield Street, W1T 4AH).
- Elliott Wood employees are also able to utilise our Wimbledon office (241 The Broadway, SW19 1SD) whenever they wish.
