We are looking for an ambitious Senior Consultant / Associate to join our growing sustainability team, positioned at the intersection of sustainability, engineering, and digital innovation.
The primary focus of this role is to develop and grow our Building Intelligence service offering by evolving our established pre-redevelopment audit expertise into comprehensive existing building optimization strategies.
As an Associate, you will expand Elliott Wood's capabilities beyond structural assessment, incorporating energy performance, systems analysis, and circular economy principles to create a holistic approach to building reuse.
You'll leverage our strong foundation of pre-redevelopment and pre-demolition audits while introducing complementary services that maximize the potential of existing structures, helping clients make data-driven decisions about their building portfolios.

Key Responsibilities:
- Apply building physics principles and energy modelling techniques to evaluate existing buildings and identify sustainable adaptation pathways
- Provide technical guidance on MEP systems integration within adaptive reuse projects
- Utilise digital tools to enhance building analysis processes and deliver actionable insights
- Transform complex technical data into compelling visualizations that communicate sustainability options to diverse stakeholders
- Collaborate with our digital team to integrate tools and techniques developed by the team into our wider company workflows
- Assist digital team by providing strategic vision and guidance on direction
- Lead client-facing projects related to building stewardship and portfolio-level sustainability strategies
- Manage up to 2 line reports, providing mentorship and technical guidance
- Train junior staff in energy modelling software and techniques, building the team's technical capabilities
- Contribute to business development initiatives by identifying opportunities to expand our services
- Support the development of thought leadership content and research initiatives
- Manage projects including key deliverables such as whole life carbon assessments and circular economy statements.
- Contributing and aligning with the company ESG strategies and initiatives. Ensuring any positive impacts are called out for the company to acknowledge. Responsible for monitoring ESG metrics and reporting on impacts
Specifications:
Experience:
- Minimum 8 years of professional experience in sustainability analysis, building services engineering, or related fields
- Demonstrated expertise in energy analysis and building physics, with experience applying these skills to existing buildings
- Strong background in whole life carbon assessment and circular economy principles
- Experience with BIM and digital technologies, particularly as they relate to building performance analysis
- Proven capability in data analysis and visualization, particularly in translating complex technical information into actionable insights
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams within the built environment sector
- Track record of successfully delivering sustainability-focused projects with measurable outcomes
- Experience mentoring junior staff and contributing to team development
- Active participation in industry working groups, forums, and collaborative initiatives related to sustainability
- History of representing organizations at industry events, conferences, or technical committees
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in mechanical engineering, sustainability, building services, or related field
- Demonstrated proficiency in energy modelling software (e.g., IES, TAS)
- Training or certification in whole life carbon assessment methodologies
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (Python, SQL, or similar)
- BIM qualifications or demonstrated expertise
Professional Memberships:
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working toward it (or alternative such as CEnv / IEMA)
- Membership in relevant professional organizations (CIBSE, LETI, UKGBC)
- Participation in industry working groups or forums related to sustainability and the built
environment
